Eligibility and retention requirements for the Penn State Berks Honors Program
Eligibility
First-year students with a minimum 3.5 high school or transfer GPA may qualify for the Penn State Berks Honors Program. Rising sophomores and juniors who have achieved a 3.5 GPA at Penn State Berks are also encouraged to apply to the program. If you are interested in being an honors student at Berks, please set up an interview with the Honors Program Coordinator.
Retention
To be a student in good standing in the College Honors Program, students must complete an annual academic plan. This plan should demonstrate progress toward the intended major as well as enrollment in honors credits as follows: first-year and second-year students must complete a minimum of 9 credit hours of honors work each academic year; juniors and seniors must complete a minimum of 14 credits total, of which 6 may be thesis credits. All students must maintain a 3.4 overall GPA.

Eligibility

Admittance to the program is based on essays, teacher recommendations, class rank, and GPA for first-year students; for second- and third-year students, admittance is based on essays, recommendations, and GPA. Schreyer Scholars typically represent the top 5% of the class at University Park.
Retention
To be a student in good standing in the Schreyer Honors College, students complete an online annual academic plan each year. During the first and second-year, students will complete a minimum of 9 credit hours of honors work, juniors and seniors will complete 14 hours of honors credits, of which 6 may be thesis credits. All students must maintain a 3.4 GPA each semester.
